Not Really Here, Not Anymore

Memories that come in fragments. In pieces. Like sheets of white paper covering an abandoned house’s windows. White as the white-sheet ghosts that live inside our childhood fears. But what if these ghosts keep following us? What if, to escape these ghosts, you become like them. Distant. In between two worlds. In neither of them.

People who suffer from dissociative disorders often describe it as looking out at the world through a window—present, yet apart. It’s a feeling of being trapped in a body that no longer feels like your own, like watching your life unfold on a screen through someone else’s eyes. This uncanny feeling of being trapped in a haunted body, over which one has, at best, nebulous control, is the focus of the aesthetic exploration proposed in this work.

Here, image, shadows and sounds reach out like fleeting spirits that seem to break through the boundary between inside and outside, but never completely overcome it. Silhouettes and fragments tell of a presence inside that remains simultaneously close and intangible.
