Willkommend

The project “willkommend” was developed during the three-week artistic residency project “2900m² Residenz “ at Kunsthaus Helleweg in Bockhorst - NRW and aimed to examine social spaces and their potential for welcoming. For three weeks, the artists lived in a timber-framed house from the 17th century, located in a rural area in East Westphalia, and worked in dialogue with the house and the surrounding community. Using mainly interviews with the community of Bockhorst and Versmold, intertwined with soundscape recordings from the surrounding environment, self-documentation, as well as audio diaries from the artists themselves, the project proposed a tracing of the transformation of the environment and the effects of isolation/socialisation during the residency. The resulting work, a sound installation with 6 different audio pieces, each relating to the different themes encountered by the artists during the process, was presented firstly in the Kunsthaus on September 9, 2023, for the community and friends.
