Vitrine
“Vitrine” is a audio walk piece that takes the listener to a peculiar spot in the urban landscape of Bochum: a shopfront, filled with vintage objects, lamps, mirrors, books and random memorabilia in the dominating colour orange. Behind this meticulously organised shopfront, what appears to be a office or studio of some sort, washed by blue colours. But it is always empty. No one is ever there. From that place, the journey continues, with the audio guide sparking curiosity about the possible enigmatic owner and their motives. The walk eventually reaches Kunstmuseum Bochum, with it’s own “shopfronts”: large windows from which you can see a part of the exhibitions inside the museum. The work ponders the parallels between curated museum spaces and the personal display in the shopfront, inviting participants to consider the act of noticing and its transformative impact on perception. Throughout the walk, themes of connection, observation, and mystery converge to offer a unique exploration of urban landscapes and the stories they hold.
